The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service continues to monitor Potential Tropical Cyclone Five, which has developed into Tropical Storm Ernesto.
At 5 p.m. the centre of Ernesto was located near 16.0N latitude and 57.5W longitude, approximately 475 km east-southeast of Antigua. The system is moving toward the west-northwest at 28 mph (44 km/h) and this motion is expected to decrease during the next couple of days. On this forecast track, the Ernesto is expected to move across portions of the Leeward Islands late tonight or Tuesday.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Guadeloupe, St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla, St. Barthelemy, St. Martin and Saint Maarten. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours.
On this current track, this system should not directly impact Trinidad and Tobago.
THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO WATCHES OR WARNINGS IN EFFECT FOR TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO. The TTMS continues to monitor TS Ernesto and will issue an update at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday 13th August, 2024 or earlier if the situation warrants.
